Nothing corrupts, pollutes, and destroys like sin. Men may deny, mock, minimize and even rationalize it but the Bible is clear, sin has a very destructive nature (Rom. 7:13). We must be alert to the awfulness of sin so that we do not find ourselves corrupted by its effect upon us.
1. Sin deceives our heart. “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; who can know it?” (J 17:9). Through lies and deception sin works on our hearts to keep us from properly seeing and doing something about the transgressions in our life.
2. Sin diverts our feet. “All we like sheep have gone astray we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all” (Isa.53:6). Sin can cause us to choose an alternate path to the one our Lord would have us to follow. It can cause us to believe and follow its lies. The path, however, that it leads us down is to destruction and eternal damnation.
3. Sin darkens our understanding. “Having their understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart” (Eph. 4:18). Sin can cloud our good judgment. It can cause our judgment to fail. Our perception of truth may even be distorted. We then may fail to properly understand and apply God’s truth to our lif
4. Sin dooms our soul. “The soul who sins shall die” (Ezk. 18:4). Sin is not satisfied with the problems and heartaches it can cause us in the here and now. It wants mo It seeks to cause our soul to be tormented forever in hell.
Yes, we should despise the very thought of sin. Is it growing in your life? Make sure that it has no part of you.
Between Us…
How do you like your spring weather? I hope your answer is damp. We have gotten plenty of liquid sunshine this past week. But, oh how the May flowers should be beautiful. Above all else remember that “this is the day the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it”. Will you? I hope you do.
